Test H - Improper Anti-Theft Warning Operation

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster electrical connector C3. See Figure . Disconnect 22-pin Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module harness connector located in luggage compartment. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C3, terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Purple wire) and RAP module connector terminal No. 16 (Yellow/Purple wire). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms.
  2. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C3, terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Purple wire). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistances are as specified, reconnect RAP module connector and go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, repair Yellow/Purple wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Visually inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for damage, cracks or hot spots. If instrument cluster printed circuit is okay, go to next step. If instrument cluster printed circuit is damaged, replace printed circuit and gauge contact clips. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Arm anti-theft system. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C3, terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Purple wire). Voltage should be about 2 volts. If voltage is about 2 volts and concern is indicator always on, see appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article to diagnose anti-theft system. If voltage is about 2 volts and concern is indicator always off, replace THEFT warning indicator LED. If voltage is not about 2 volts, see appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article to diagnose anti-theft system.
