Rear Axle Bearings
- Release parking brake. Remove wheels. Remove hub grease cap.
- Rotate brake drum, ensure there is no brake drag. Remove cotter pin, wheel bearing nut cover and wheel bearing nut. Discard cotter pin.
- Install wheel bearing nut. Seat rear wheel bearing by tightening nut to 18-22 ft. lbs. (25-29 N.m). Rotate brake drum. Loosen wheel bearing nut slightly. Measure amount of seal drag and add to required preload. To measure seal drag, install one lug bolt onto lug bolt positioned at 12 o'clock and measure amount of force required to rotate brake drum. Pull torque wrench and note reading when rotation starts. Loosely tighten wheel bearing nut.
- Place INCH lbs. Torque Wrench (D81L-600-A) or equivalent onto lug bolt positioned at 12 o'clock and measure amount of pull required to rotate brake drum. Continue tightening wheel bearing nut until bearing preload specification of 0.6-1.91 lbs. (2.6-8.5 N) plus seal drag measurement is obtained with torque wrench.
- Install wheel bearing nut cover and new cotter pin. Install hub grease cap. Install wheels tightening lug bolts to 65-87 ft. lbs. (88-118 N.m).
