Coolant Temperature Gauge

  1. Disconnect water temperature indicator sender unit. Connect one lead of Instrument Gauge System Tester (164-R1063) to Black/Orange wire terminal at water temperature indicator sender unit connector and other lead to ground.
  2. Set tester to 74 ohms (1.8L) or 500 ohms (1.9L). Turn ignition switch to ON position, wait one minute and read gauge. Gauge should read "C" (cold).
  3. Set tester to 9.7 ohms (1.8L) or 17 ohms (1.9L). Wait one minute and read gauge. Gauge should read "H" (hot).
  4. If coolant temperature gauge is operating properly, go to system test. If gauge is malfunctioning, replace temperature gauge.
