Test W - Low Coolant Warning Never/Always On
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect low coolant level warning sensor connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage on Black/Yellow wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open or short in Black/Yellow wire and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect coolant level warning sensor connector. Measure resistance of Black wire from connector to ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open or short in Black wire and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect low coolant level warning sensor connector Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage on Yellow/Green wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace low coolant level sensor and retest system. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check continuity between terminals of coolant indicator bulb. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace indicator bulb and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C249 on vehicles without tachometer (C254 with tachometer). See Figure -8. Disconnect low coolant level sensor connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Green wire between cluster connector and sensor connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Green wire between cluster connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors and more than 10 k/ohms between cluster connector and ground, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistances are not to specification, repair open or short in Yellow/Green wire and retest system.
