Test Q - Charge Warning Never/Always On

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Ground White/Black wire on generator connector. If charging system indicator illuminates, see appropriate GENERATOR article below. Retest system. If indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove charging system indicator bulb and check continuity of bulb. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace indicator bulb and retest system.
  3. Turn ignition to OFF position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect cluster connector C250 on vehicles without tachometer (C252 with tachometer). Disconnect generator connector. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between cluster connector and generator connector. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between cluster connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between cluster connector and generator and more than 10 k/ohms between cluster connector and ground, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short in White/Black wire and/or main fuse junction panel and retest system.
