Test P - Brake Warning Never/Always On
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch. Measure continuity between terminals of brake fluid level switch. Below MIN, resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Above MIN, resistance should be about 500 ohms. If resistances are correct, go to next step. If resistances are not correct, replace brake fluid level switch and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect cluster connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage on Black/Yellow wires at cluster connectors. If voltages are more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltages are less than 10 volts, repair open or short in wire(s) and retest system.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove brake system warning light bulb. Measure continuity between terminals of bulb. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace bulb and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect brake master cylinder sensor connector. Measure resistance of Black wire between brake master cylinder sensor connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect parking brake signal switch connector. Measure resistance of Green/Yellow wire between parking brake signal switch and ground when engaged and released. Engaged should be less than 5 ohms resistance and released should be more than 10 k/ohms resistance. If resistances are correct, go to next step. If resistances are not correct, replace parking brake signal switch and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cluster connector C249 on vehicles without tachometer (C254 with tachometer). Disconnect brake master cylinder sensor connector. Disconnect parking brake signal switch or Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control connector (if equipped). Measure resistance of Green/Yellow wire between cluster connector and brake master cylinder sensor connector. Measure resistance of Green/Yellow wire between cluster connector and parking brake signal switch or DRL control connector (if equipped). Measure resistance of Green/Yellow wire between cluster connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between connectors, and more than 10 k/ohms between connector and ground, replace instrument cluster printed circuit (without DRL) and retest system, or go to next step (with DRL). See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistances are not as specified, repair open or short in Green/Yellow wire(s) and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect DRL control connector. Disconnect parking brake signal switch connector. Measure resistance between Orange/White wire at DRL control connector and Green/Yellow wire at parking brake signal switch connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/White or Green/Yellow wire and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect DRL control connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Ground Green/Yellow wire at DRL control connector. If brake warning light illuminates, replace DRL module and retest system. If brake warning light does not illuminate, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
