Test L - Tachometer Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C252. See Figure -8. Disconnect ignition distributor module connector (1.8L) or ignition control module connector (1.9L). Measure resistance of Yellow/Blue wire between instrument cluster connector and module connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Blue wire and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C252. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage on Black/Yellow wires at cluster connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open or short in Black/Yellow wire(s) and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cluster connector C252. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage at "+" terminal of tachometer. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C252. Measure resistance of Black/Green wire between cluster connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace tachometer and retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. disconnect instrument cluster connector C252. Measure resistance of Black/Green wire between cluster connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Green wire and retest system.
