Test R - Low Oil Pressure Warning Never/Always On

  1. Using mechanical gauge at pressure sensor port, test engine oil pressure. Pressure should be 43-57 psi @ 3000 RPM (1.8L) or 36-65 psi @ 2000 RPM (1.9L). If oil pressure is within specification, go to next step. If oil pressure is out of specification, repair engine as necessary and retest system.
  2. Disconnect oil pressure sensor connector. Measure resistance between terminal of oil pressure sensor and ground with engine off and then with engine running. Resistance running should be more than 10 k/ohms. Resistance with engine off should be less than 5 ohms. If resistances are correct, go to next step. If resistances are out of specification, replace oil pressure sensor and retest system.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove low oil pressure indicator bulb. Test continuity of indicator bulb. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace indicator bulb and retest system.
  4. Turn ignition to OFF position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect cluster connector C250 on vehicles without tachometer (C252 with tachometer). Disconnect oil pressure sensor connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Red wire between cluster connector C250, pin No. 11 or connector C252, pin No. 8 and oil pressure sensor connector. See Figure -8. Measure resistance of Yellow/Red wire between cluster connector C250, pin No. 11 or connector C252, pin No. 8 and ground.
  5. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between cluster connector and pressure sensor, and more than 10 k/ohms between cluster connector and ground, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is out of specification, repair open or short in Yellow/Red wire and/or main fuse junction panel and retest system.
