Upper Control Arm: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    CAUTION: Weight of vehicle must be supported from lower control arms or coil spring must be compressed during the following procedure.
  1. Place wheels in straight-ahead position. Raise vehicle from lower control arms or raise vehicle and place jackstands under lower control arms, to maintain pressure on the coil springs. Remove upper ball joint clamp bolt and nut. Disconnect upper ball joint from knuckle.
  2. NOTE: Place match marks on mounting plate and mounting bracket, and note location and position of shims before removing upper control arm.
  3. Remove bolt retainer bracket. See Figure . Mark position of front and rear mounting brackets on mounting plate. Remove front and rear mounting bracket bolts. Remove upper control arm assembly and mounting plate.
  4. Remove upper control arm-to-adjusting arm nuts. Separate upper control arm from adjusting arm. Remove damper assembly from upper control arm. Mounting brackets and adjusting arm are serviced as a complete unit.
