Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disable ignition coils. Remove CMP sensor, leave electrical connector plugged-in. Using analog voltmeter (or oscilloscope), connect negative lead to CMP sensor ground (CMP sensor body or Black/Blue wire). With voltmeter positive lead, backprobe White wire. Turn ignition on and Rotate CMP shaft. Voltmeter should indicate 4 voltage pulses (5 volts) per revolution.
- Move positive voltmeter lead to Yellow/Blue wire terminal. Rotate CMP sensor shaft. Voltmeter should indicate 2 voltage pulses (5 volts) per revolution. Replace CMP sensor if necessary.
