Checking Plugs & Wires

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Mazda B4000, 1995 Mazda B3000, and 1995 Mazda B2300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Remove spark plug. Connect spark plug to high-tension lead and hold it about 1/4" from ground. Crank engine, and verify a strong blue spark is discharged. If there is no spark at all plugs, go to appropriate TESTS W/CODES article. If spark is missing from one plug, check spark plug wire resistance on suspect wire. Resistance should be less than 6982 ohms per foot. Replace spark plug wire and spark plug as necessary. Recheck ignition system.
