Automatic Transmission Removal & Installation - Automatic Transmission (4R44E/5R55E): Removal

- Place selector lever in Neutral. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove transmission dipstick. Raise and support vehicle. Drain transmission.
- On 3.0L models, Remove torque converter access cover. On all models, Remove starter. Mark torque converter and flexplate alignment for installation reference. Remove and discard torque converter nuts.
- Mark drive shaft alignment for installation reference. Remove drive shaft and plug extension housing. Remove speedometer cable from extension housing. Disconnect shift cable from transmission. Disconnect necessary electrical connections.
- Remove engine mount-to-crossmember nuts. Support transmission with transmission jack. Remove crossmember. Remove transmission mount. On 3.0L models, remove catalytic converter.
- On 4WD models, remove transfer case. See TRANSFER CASE article in TRANSFER CASES. On all models, remove oil filler tube. Disconnect oil cooler line at transmission and plug all openings. Position wiring harness and hardware aside. Remove transmission-to-engine retaining bolts. Remove transmission.
