Engine Lubrication System: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Ford Ranger, 1997 Ford Explorer, 1996 Ford Ranger, and 1996 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Engine lubrication system is a force-feed type. Oil is supplied under full pressure to crankshaft, connecting rods, camshaft bearings and valve lifters. See Figure. A controlled volume of oil is supplied to rocker arms and push rods. All other moving parts are lubricated by splash or gravity flow. Oil flows through oil filter before entering main oil gallery.
