Steering Wheel R & I: Removal

  1. Center the front wheels to a straight-ahead position. Before proceeding, read and understand all air bag service precautions. Refer to SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable the air bag system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove air bag module from steering wheel. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Disconnect speed control wiring harness (if equipped) from steering wheel. Remove steering wheel retaining bolt. Mark steering wheel hub and steering shaft for installation reference. Using Steering Wheel Puller (T67L-3600-A), remove steering wheel. Route clockspring (contact assembly) wiring harness through steering wheel as wheel is lifted from steering shaft.
