CLOCKSPRING R & I: Installation

  1. Ensure vehicle front wheels are in straight-ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at 12 o'clock position.
  2. Align clockspring (contact assembly) with column shaft and mounting tabs to holes in steering column. Slide clockspring onto shaft, pushing until 3 tabs lock into place.
  3. If clockspring was rotated accidentally during removal from vehicle, adjust clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING CENTERING  under ADJUSTMENTS. Route clockspring wiring down column assembly and connect to wire harness. Install anti-theft contact and key warning contact into ignition cylinder cavity. Install lower shroud and instrument panel cover.
  4. Install lower right and left molding on instrument panel. Install air bag module and steering wheel. Reconnect positive, then negative battery cable. Activate air bag system. Check AIR BAG warning light to assure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
