Turbocharger Overhaul: Disassembly

- Disconnect control rod from valve lever on exhaust backpressure control valve. See Fig 1. Remove exhaust backpressure control valve-to-compressor housing bolts and remove exhaust backpressure control valve. See Fig 1.
- Remove turbocharger pedestal assembly-to-turbocharger center housing bolts. These bolts are located on bottom side of turbocharger pedestal assembly. Separate turbocharger pedestal assembly and "O" rings from turbocharger center housing.CAUTION: DO NOT damage blades on turbine wheel and compressor wheel when removing turbine housing and compressor housing from center housing.
- Place reference mark on compressor housing, center housing and turbine housing for installation reference. See Fig 1. Remove turbine housing-to-center housing bolts. Remove turbine housing from center housing. Use care not to damage blades on turbine wheel when removing turbine housing.
- Remove compressor housing-to-center housing bolts. Remove compressor housing from center housing. Do not to damage blades on compressor wheel when removing compressor housing.
- Ensure no blades are bent on turbine wheel and compressor wheel. Replace center housing if any blades are bent. DO NOT attempt to straighten blades.
