Fuel Injectors: Removal

- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove right or left rocker cover as necessary. To remove right rocker arm cover, remove drive belt, generator mounting bracket and generator. To remove left rocker cover, remove intake ducting, crankcase breather and vacuum hose from vacuum pump.
- Disconnect harness connector from valve cover gasket. Remove valve cover bolts and valve cover. Disconnect wiring from fuel injectors. Remove valve cover gasket.
- Remove oil rail drain plug and let all oil drain from cylinder head. See Fig 1. Remove oil deflector. Remove outer fuel injector retaining bolt. Carefully pry fuel injector out of cylinder head using Injector Remover (T94T-9000-AH1). See Fig 2. Ensure all "O" rings and washers are retrieved from injector bore. If removing No. 7 fuel injector, remove outer half of heater case.
- Place fuel injector in a rack or other protected container. If removal of fuel injector sleeve from cylinder head is necessary, plug injector bore using Sleeve Tap Plug (014-00934) to prevent debris from entering combustion chamber. Remove sleeve using Injector Sleeve Tap (014-00934) and slide hammer.
- Clean injector bore using Injector Sleeve Brush (014-00934-5) or equivalent. Ensure all debris is removed.
NOTE:
California and Federal models use different fuel injectors. Ensure correct injectors are installed.
