Test "P" (Rear Blend Door)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Check EATC System

Test EATC system operation. See EATC SYSTEM TEST under TESTING. Repair as necessary. If system tests okay, go to next step.
  2. Check Fuse

Check fuse No. 10 in instrument panel fuse box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in the following wires between fuse, rear blower motor switch and rear blend door actuator: Gray/Yellow, Yellow/Light Green and Red/White. Repair wire(s) as necessary and replace fuse.
  3. Check Power To Rear Blower Motor Switch

Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at Gray/Yellow wire terminal of rear blower motor switch connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Gray/Yellow wire.
  4. Check Rear Blower Motor Switch Ground Circuit

Check continuity between known-good ground and Black wire terminal of rear blower motor switch connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire.
  5. Check Switch Continuity (OFF Position)

Turn blower switch on rear integrated control panel to OFF position. Disconnect rear blower motor switch connector. Check continuity between specified terminals of switch. See REAR BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST table. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. Replace switch if continuity is not as specified.
REAR BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST

Switch Position & Terminal No. (Wire Color) Continuity
    OFF (1)
    7 (BLK) & 1 (YEL/LT GRN) Yes
    7 (BLK) & 4 (RED/WHT) No
    7 (BLK) & 8 (GRY/YEL) No
    Except OFF (1)
    7 (BLK) & 1 (YEL/LT GRN) No
    7 (BLK) & 4 (RED/WHT) Yes
    7 (BLK) & 8 (GRY/YEL) Yes
    (1) Position of blower switch on rear integrated control panel.
  6. Check Switch Continuity (Any Positions Except OFF)

Turn blower switch on rear integrated control panel to any position except OFF. Check continuity between specified terminals of switch. See REAR BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST table. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. Replace switch if continuity is not as specified.
  7. Check Voltage Output At Rear Blend Door Actuator

Reconnect rear blower motor switch connector. Turn ignition on. Set blower switch on rear integrated control panel to any position except OFF. Measure voltage at Red/White wire terminal of rear blend door actuator connector. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair open Red/White wire.
  8. Measure voltage at Yellow/Light Green wire terminal of rear blend door actuator connector. If battery voltage is present, replace rear blend door actuator. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Yellow/Light Green wire.
