Test "K" In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor)

  1. Check EATC System

    Test EATC system operation. See EATC SYSTEM TEST under TESTING. Repair as necessary. If system tests okay, go to next step.
  2. Check For Codes

    Turn ignition on. Enter self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST. Record any codes or temperatures displayed. Exit self-diagnostics. If Code 030 or 031 is set, go to next step. If neither code is set, go to step 4).
    NOTE: Warm discharge air at 65°F (18°C) temperature setting indicates sensor is open. Cool discharge air at 85°F (29°C) temperature setting indicates sensor is shorted.
  3. Check Sensor Resistance

    Disconnect in-vehicle temperature sensor connector. Measure resistance across sensor terminals. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. See IN-VEHICLE TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If resistance is not as specified, replace sensor.

  4. Check Power To EATC Module

    Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between known-good ground and terminal No. 11 (Black/Light Green wire) of EATC module connector. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open Black/Light Green wire.
  5. Check EATC Module Ground Circuit

    Measure resistance between known-good ground and terminal No. 24 (Black wire) of EATC module connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire.
  6. Check EATC Module

    Start engine. Operate A/C or heater in any mode. If A/C or heater comes on, go to next step. If A/C or heater does not come on, replace EATC module (control panel).
  7. Check Aspirator Hose

    Check aspirator hose for proper installation. See Figure. If hose is properly installed, go to next step. If hose is not properly installed, repair as necessary.
  8. Check White/Orange Wire

    Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of White/Orange wire between EATC module connector and in-vehicle temperature sensor connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open White/Orange wire.
  9. Check Voltage Output At EATC Module

    Disconnect in-vehicle temperature sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between known-good ground and terminal No. 17 (White/Orange wire) of EATC module. If voltage is approximately 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not approximately 5 volts, replace EATC module (control panel).
  10. Check In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor Ground Circuit

    Turn ignition off. Check continuity of Pink/Black wire between EATC module connector and in-vehicle temperature sensor connector. If continuity exists, replace sensor. If continuity does not exist, repair open Pink/Black wire.
