Test "F" (Cool Discharge Air In Automatic & 90°F Setting)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Carefully follow instructions in step 3) to prevent burns.

  1. Check EATC System

Test EATC system operation. See EATC SYSTEM TEST under TESTING. Repair as necessary. If system tests okay, go to next step.
  2. Check Coolant Level

Turn ignition off. Allow engine to fully cool. Remove radiator cap. If coolant level is okay, go to next step. If coolant level is low, fill radiator. Install radiator cap.
  3. Measure Coolant Temperature

Install radiator cap. Warm engine to operating temperature. Place large rag over radiator cap. Partially loosen radiator cap (one position) to release pressure. After pressure is fully released, remove radiator cap. Insert a thermometer into radiator filler neck. If coolant temperature is about 190°F (88°C), go to next step. If coolant temperature is not about 190°F (88°C), replace cooling system thermostat.
  4. Check Temperature Blend Door Operation

Install radiator cap. Start engine. Operate system in AUTOMATIC mode and 90°F temperature setting. If temperature blend door is in full heat position, system is okay at this time. If temperature blend door is not in full heat position, check for binding door. If door is not binding, test blend door actuator. See TEST "A".
