Section 227 (HVAC System - A/C-Heater System - Manual): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Ford Ranger and 1996 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Explorer and Ranger use a split-case, blend-air type manual A/C-heater system. Split case allows plenum assembly, located on passenger compartment side of firewall, to attach to evaporator assembly on engine compartment side of firewall.

The evaporator case contains evaporator core, blower motor, blower motor resistor, suction accumulator-drier, clutch cycling pressure switch and evaporator core tube with internal fixed orifice tube.

The plenum assembly includes heater core, outside/recirculation door, panel/defrost door, floor/defrost door and temperature blend door.

Other components which link and/or control the heating and A/C system include: the A/C control, the ducts and registers, the windshield defroster hose nozzle, the vacuum lines, the refrigerant tubes and hoses, the A/C compressor, and the condenser core.
