Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Mercury Villager and 1995 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Sensor is located in intake manifold coolant passage at front of most engines. ECT sensor requires a 5-volt reference signal during engine operation. With sensor disconnected, sensor may be checked by measuring resistance between sensor terminals. For specifications, see SENSOR RANGE CHARTS article. For additional testing information, see CIRCUIT TEST ECT in TESTS W/CODES article.
