Symptom Checks

Perform the following:

Check starter relay.
Check starting system.
Check charging system.
Check for seized/hydrostatic locked engine (leaking injectors).
Check for defective flywheel/flexplate or seized engine components.
Perform QUICK TEST. See TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (4.0L) article. If code is present, perform appropriate CIRCUIT TEST.
Check ignition circuit. In particular, check for ignition starter wire shorting to ground (distributor-equipped vehicles only).
Check brake interlock switch (if equipped).
Check transmission linkage adjustment or Transmission Range (TR) sensor adjustment.
