Symptom Checks

Perform the following:
- Check starter relay.
- Check starting system.
- Check charging system.
- Check for seized/hydrostatic locked engine (leaking injectors).
- Check for defective flywheel/flexplate or seized engine components.
- Perform QUICK TEST. See TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (4.0L) article. If code is present, perform appropriate CIRCUIT TEST.
- Check ignition circuit. In particular, check for ignition starter wire shorting to ground (distributor-equipped vehicles only).
- Check brake interlock switch (if equipped).
- Check transmission linkage adjustment or Transmission Range (TR) sensor adjustment.
