Check For Air In Fuel

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Ford RV Cutaway, 1995 Ford Econoline, 1995 Ford Cutaway, and 1995 Ford Club Wagon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install a length of clear PCV hose in place of rubber hose between fuel filter outlet and injection nozzle return system. Run engine at 3000 RPM and check for bubbles in clear hose. Fuel should flow from fuel filter/water separator toward fuel return system. On vehicles with dual tanks, check with tank selector valve in each position for a minimum of 2 minutes.
  2. If fuel flow direction is okay and bubbles are less than 1/16" diameter, go to next test. If fuel flow direction is okay and bubbles are greater than 1/16" diameter, proceed to the FUEL SYSTEM AIR LEAK TESTING  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repeat this test when air leaks are eliminated. If fuel flow direction is not correct, go to CHECK FUEL RETURN PRESSURE  test. Repeat this test when fuel flow direction is corrected.
