Inertia Fuel Shutoff (Ifs) Switch
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Ford Explorer and 1995 Ford Aerostar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ensure ignition is off. On Aerostar, IFS switch is located below right side of instrument panel, behind trim panel. On Explorer, IFS switch is located under instrument panel, near right side of transmission hump.NOTE: In closed position, reset button can be depressed an additional 1/16" against spring. This is normal and does not affect IFS switch operation.
- Push down on reset button to ensure switch is closed. Measure resistance between terminals on switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, switch is okay. For additional circuit testing information, refer to CIRCUIT TEST J in the appropriate TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (4.0L) article. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace switch.
