Knock Sensor (KS)

KS is located on cylinder block. Before continuing diagnosis, check condition of engine, quality of fuel and basic spark timing. Faults in sensor or circuit should set a diagnostic trouble code. See QUICK TEST in TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (3.0L) article. If no diagnostic trouble code has been set, proceed to the CIRCUIT TEST DG in the TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (3.0L) article for additional sensor specifications and circuit testing procedures. Sensor is tested by substitution or by manually generating a knock to ensure sensor will set a diagnostic trouble code.
