Hydraulic Valve Lifters: Inspection

- Clean valve lifters in solvent or diesel fuel. Check valve lifter-to-bore oil clearance. If oil clearance is not within specification, replace valve lifter. See VALVE LIFTERS table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
- Replace lifter if any part shows pitting, scoring, galling or evidence of non-rotation. Ensure lifter roller operates smoothly and without excessive play.
