Removal (Van)

- Remove engine cover. Disconnect negative battery cable from both batteries. Scribe hood hinge location and remove hood. On models equipped with A/C, discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Drain coolant. Remove front bumper, grille, air deflector and gravel deflector.
- Remove headlight and side light assemblies. Remove air cleaner and air intake hoses. Disconnect hoses from condenser and remove condenser. Remove hood latch, leaving cable attached. Remove radiator support bracket. Remove transmission oil cooler lines from radiator. Disconnect hoses from radiator. Remove fan shroud and radiator. Disconnect oil cooler lines.CAUTION: Fan and fan clutch assembly uses right-hand thread bolts.
- Using Fan Clutch Pulley Holder (T94T-6312-AH) and Fan Clutch Nut Wrench (T83T-6312-B), remove fan and clutch assembly. Remove oil filler tube. Rotate drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove drive belt. Disconnect hoses and electrical connectors from A/C compressor. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum pump. Disconnect power steering hoses from power steering pump. Remove A/C compressor bracket.
- Mark and disconnect wiring from generator. Remove generator retaining bolt, and position heater hose aside. Remove generator bracket with generator attached. Mark and disconnect wiring from engine sensors and switches as necessary. Disconnect generator and A/C wiring harness from main engine wiring harness and position aside.
- Remove left and right ground cables from engine. Disconnect MAP sensor vacuum hose from right intake manifold cover. Disconnect heater hoses from water pump and right cylinder head. Remove interior engine cover. Remove turbocharger and manifold. See TURBOCHARGER. Remove fuel filter assembly. Remove fuel return hose and transmission dipstick tube.
- Remove top 2 engine-to-transmission bolts. Raise vehicle. Disconnect starter and transmission electrical connectors. Remove exhaust manifold-to-exhaust pipe bolts. On vehicles with A/T, remove flywheel housing cover.
- Remove torque converter nuts. Remove engine mount nuts. Lower vehicle and support transmission. Attach engine hoist to engine. Remove remaining engine-to-transmission bolts. Remove engine and secure to engine stand.
