Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

- Remove engine from vehicle. See ENGINE . Remove rocker arms and push rods, marking all components for installation to original location. Rotate engine on engine stand until vertical, and tipped back slightly. Rotate crankshaft 3-4 times to push lifters away from camshaft lobes. Remove engine front cover. - Check camshaft gear backlash and camshaft end play. Rotate crankshaft to align camshaft gear and crankshaft gear timing marks. See Fig 1. Remove camshaft thrust plate bolts. Remove camshaft, camshaft gear and camshaft thrust plate as an assembly.
