Symptom Checks

Perform the following:
- Perform QUICK TEST. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES - EEC -IV article. If code is present, perform appropriate CIRCUIT TEST.
- TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (5.0L)
- TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (5.8L)
- Ensure engine operates at normal operating temperature.
- Check ignition system. See IGNITION SYSTEMS in appropriate appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article below.
- Check power to MAP/BARO sensor. See step 3) of CIRCUIT TEST S in appropriate TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV article below.
- Check idle speed. See IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE in appropriate ADJUSTMENTS article below.
- ADJUSTMENTS - 5.0L
- ADJUSTMENTS - 5.8L
- Check PCV system. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article.
- Check Fuel Evaporation (EVAP) system. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article.
- Check air injection (if equipped). See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article.
- Check EGR system. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article below.
- Check engine mechanical condition. Check compression, intake manifold gasket, camshaft and valve train components, etc.
