Removal & Installation: Thermostat: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Ford Pickup, 1995 Ford Econoline, 1995 Ford Club Wagon, and 1995 Ford Bronco. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clean the water outlet housing gasket surfaces. Coat a new water hose connection gasket with Perfect Seal Sealing Compound B5A-19554-A or D7AZ-19554-BA (ESR-M18P2-A or ESE-M4G115-A) or equivalent.
  2. Position the water hose connection gasket on the intake manifold or cylinder head opening.
  3. Install the water thermostat in the intake manifold opening with the copper pellet or element toward the engine (6007) and the thermostat flange positioned in the recess. If the water thermostat is improperly installed, it will cause a retarded flow of coolant.
  4. Position the water outlet housing against the intake manifold.
  5. Install and tighten the attaching bolts.
  6. Install the water bypass line and tighten hose connections.
  7. Fill and bleed the cooling system as described in this section.
  8. WARNING: DO NOT STAND IN LINE WITH OR NEAR RADIATOR FAN BLADE WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING.
  9. Operate the engine until normal operating temperature is reached; then check the coolant level and check for leaks.
