Symptom Checks

Perform the following:

- TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (5.8L)
- TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (7.5L)
- Check ignition system. See IGNITION SYSTEMS in appropriate I - SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article below.
- Check fuel system/throttle body. See FUEL SYSTEM in appropriate I - SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
- Check for restricted exhaust system.
- Check cooling system for overheating (hard hot start only). Also see ENGINE RUNS HOT (OVERHEATING).
- Check Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in the appropriate I - SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article below.
- Check Fuel Evaporation (EVAP) system. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in appropriate I - SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
- Check starting system.
- Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in appropriate I - SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article below.
- SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - EEC-IV (4.9L)
- SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - EEC-IV (5.0L)
- SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - EEC-IV (5.8L)
- SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - 7.3L DIESEL
- SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - EEC-IV (7.5L)
- Check for contaminated MAF sensor.
