Symptom Checks

Perform the following:
- Check starter relay.
- Check starting system.
- Check charging system.
- Check for seized/hydrostatic locked engine (leaking injectors).
- Check for defective flywheel/flexplate or seized engine components.
- Perform QUICK TEST. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES - EEC -IV article below.
- TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (3.0L)
- TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (4.0L)
If code is present, perform appropriate CIRCUIT TEST.
* Check ignition circuit. In particular, check for ignition starter wire shorting to ground (distributor-equipped vehicles only).
* Check brake interlock switch (if equipped).
* Check transmission linkage adjustment or Transmission Range (TR) sensor adjustment.
