Removal (Ranger)
NOTE:
On 3.0L 4WD Ranger, it is necessary to remove engine for removal of oil pan.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove dipstick. Disconnect fan shroud and position aside. Remove motor mount nuts from frame. Position No. 1 piston at TDC of compression stroke. Note position of camshaft position sensor electrical connector and remove connector. Remove camshaft position sensor retaining screws and remove sensor.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove retainer clip and electrical connector at oil low level sensor. Drain engine oil. Remove starter. Remove transmission inspection cover. On 2WD models, remove right front axle assembly. See appropriate article in SUSPENSION or DRIVE AXLES.
- Remove oil pan bolts. Carefully remove oil pan. Using a suitable lifting device, raise engine approximately 2 inches. Carefully remove oil pan. DO NOT damage oil pump pick-up tube. Remove oil pan gasket.
