Drive Axle - Front (DANA 28-2): Description
Dana model 28-2 front axle is an integral carrier housing. See Fig 1 . Center line of drive pinion is mounted on center line of ring gear. Axle housing is made of aluminum and is mounted to sub-frame assembly. Inner axle shafts are retained in axle housing by "C" clips in differential case. Outer half-shaft drive axles bolt to inner drive axle shaft flanges and are supported on outboard end by rotor and hub assembly.
Drive pinion depth and differential side bearing preload are set by use of shims. Pinion bearing preload is set by use of collapsible pinion spacer.
