Differential Housing Assembly: Installation

  1. Raise differential housing assembly so upper control arm fits over cam adjuster and bushing. Ensure reference mark on bushing and cam adjuster are still aligned. Install bolt, retainer and nut in upper control arm. Tighten bolt and nut until it is snug. DO NOT  tighten to specification at this time.
  2. Lower differential housing assembly for coil spring installation. Install lower insulator for coil spring on lower control arm. Install upper insulator on tapered coil (White colored end) of coil spring.
CAUTION: Coil spring must be installed with tapered coil (White colored end) toward the body.
  3. Install coil spring. Install upper and lower coil spring retainers and tighten bolt/nut to proper specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Raise differential housing assembly to normal operating height. Install lower control arm-to-differential housing bolt. Tighten upper and lower control arm-to-differential housing bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
CAUTION: Ensure bushing and cam adjuster mark are still aligned. Components must be in original location to obtain correct rear axle pinion angle. Upper and lower control arm-to-differential housing assembly bolts must be tightened to specification with differential housing assembly at normal operating height.
  4. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Apply Loctite to drive shaft flange bolt threads before installing. Ensure reference mark on drive shaft flanges are aligned. Tighten all bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Bleed brake system.
