Pinpoint Test N - Speed Indication Varies Erratically

  1. Remove VSS from transaxle. Inspect sensor gear teeth and retainer clip. Repair or replace if necessary. If sensor components are in good condition, go to next step.
  2. Unplug connector from Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), located at left rear of transmission. Measure resistance between wiring harness connector terminals. If resistance is 500 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 500 ohms, repair short in circuit No. 150 (Dark Green/White wire).
  3. Measure resistance between VSS sensor terminals. If resistance is 200-230, go to next step. If resistance is not 200-230 ohms, replace vehicle speed sensor.
  4. Reconnect VSS. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Unplug C1, connector from instrument cluster. Measure resistance between connector C1, pin No. 8 (Black/White wire) and pin No. 12 (Dark Green/White wire). See Figure . If resistance is 160-230 ohms, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is not 160-230 ohms, repair circuit No. 150 (Dark Green/White wire).
