Pinpoint Test G - Temp Gauge Displays 2 Top & 2 Bottom Bars

  1. Disconnect connector from Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. Turn ignition on. Wait until prove-out is completed. Temperature gauge should indicate cold; only bottom bar should appear. If temperature gauge does not indicate as specified, go to next step. If temperature gauge indicates as specified, replace ECT sensor.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between connector C1, pin No. 8 (Black/White wire) and connector C2, pin No. 23 (Red/White wire). See Figure and Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, temporarily substitute known-good EIC, then retest system. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short on Red/White wire to ECT sensor.
