Pinpoint Test Ad - Air Bag Warning Never/Always On

WARNING: To prevent air bag deployment, system must be disabled before working near steering column and instrument cluster. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

NOTE: If AIR BAG indicator is flashing, check for Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) stored in PCM memory.

If AIR BAG warning light is always on, go to next step. If ABS warning light is never on, go to step 4).
Disconnect battery cables and wait one minute. Disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor. If AIR BAG warning light is still always on, go to next step. If ABS warning light is off, check for fault in air bag diagnostic monitor.
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
Ensure ignition is off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster wiring harness connector. Check for continuity in Black/Yellow wire between air bag diagnostic monitor and instrument cluster connector C3, pin No. 14. See Figure . If continuity is present, replace instrument cluster. If continuity is not present, repair Black/Yellow wire.
Ensure voltage is present between ground and the following terminals:
- Connector C1, pin No. 7 (Black/Light Green wire).
- Connector C1, pin No. 9 (Pink/Black wire).

Turn ignition off. Ensure continuity is present between ground and the following terminal:

Connector C1, pin No. 8 (Black/White wire).

If voltage and continuity are not as specified, repair circuit as necessary. If voltage and continuity are as specified, go to next step.

5) Leave ignition off, battery cables and AIR BAG diagnostic monitor disconnected. Connect jumper wire between AIR BAG diagnostic monitor Black/Yellow wire terminal and ground. Reconnect battery cables. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If AIR BAG warning light is still on, check for fault in AIR BAG diagnostic monitor. If AIR BAG warning light is off, go to next step.

6) Turn ignition off. Remove jumper wire. Ensure continuity is present between ground and connector C3, pin No. 14 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure . If continuity is not present, repair circuit as necessary. If continuity is present, replace bulb.
