Tachometer Test
- Check tachometer fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system.
- Check for loose connections in engine compartment and at instrument panel. If connections are okay, go to next step. If connections are loose, secure connections and retest.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Make the following resistance and voltage checks at wire harness connector:
- Resistance between connector C2, terminal No. 9 (Black/White wire) and ground. Resistance should read one ohm or less.
- Connect battery. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check for battery voltage at connector C2, terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire).
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect battery. Measure resistance between connector C1, terminal No. 10 (White/Pink wire) and ground. See Figure -5. Resistance should be 1.8 ohms or less.
If voltage and resistance values are correct, go to next step. If values are not correct, problem is not tachometer. Service wiring as necessary.
- Check for loose tachometer connector clips on rear of instrument cluster or damaged instrument cluster printed circuit. If connector clips or printed circuit are okay, replace tachometer. If clips or printed circuit are loose or damaged, tighten or replace clips, or replace printed circuit.
