Description & Operation
Analog instrument cluster contains an analog speedometer, tachometer (if equipped), fuel gauge, temperature gauge, odometer, trip odometer and trip odometer reset button. Warning/indicator lights are located at bottom of cluster. Right and left turn signal indicators flank speedometer at cluster bottom. Fuel gauge and coolant temperature gauge are separate in standard cluster and together as an assembly in cluster equipped with a tachometer. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
Instrument cluster illumination is controlled by an instrument panel dimmer switch, located to right of instrument cluster. Instrument cluster will not illuminate when headlight switch is in the OFF position.
When ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the following warning indicators will light momentarily for function proof:
- Charging System
- Safety Belt
- Brake System
- Low Oil Pressure
- Anti-Lock Brake
- MIL (CHECK ENGINE)
- Air Bag
Instrument cluster printed circuit supplies current to panel lights and warning indicators. Printed circuit is copper foil bonded to Mylar(R) and is mounted to instrument cluster housing. Because of its location, printed circuit cannot be easily inspected or tested in vehicle. The printed circuit is vulnerable to damage if a probe is used for in-vehicle testing.
