Rear Brake Shoes: Installation
- Clean backing plate with an approved vacuum cleaner. Install parking brake strut adjuster mechanism and adjuster spring (if removed). Use high temperature grease to lubricate shoe contact pads, adjuster mechanism toothed quadrant, and anchor plate section where shoes ride.
- Install and tighten wheel cylinder (if removed). Position rear brake shoes on backing plate, and install rear hold-down pin and spring. Install brake shoe return springs.
- Insert a screwdriver between knurled quadrant and parking brake strut. Twist screwdriver until quadrant just touches backing plate. See Fig 1
. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Bleed brakes (if necessary). See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM
