Oil Pressure Gauge Test

  1. Partially remove instrument cluster, leaving connectors attached. Ensure cluster harness connections are secure. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure battery voltage exists at fuses and battery terminal of cluster connector. See wiring diagram under WIRING DIAGRAM.
  2. If gauge pointer does not move when engine is running and other gauges are operating normally, measure engine oil pressure with manual gauge. If engine oil pressure is at least 6 psi, go to next step. Repair engine if oil pressure is not as specified.
  3. Turn off engine. Connect jumper wire between oil pressure sensor harness connector and ground.
  4. Turn ignition on. If gauge indicates approximately midscale, replace oil pressure sensor. If gauge does not indicate midscale, inspect for open or short circuits in wiring between sensor and cluster. Repair as required. If wiring is okay, replace oil pressure gauge.
