Pinpoint Test L - Speedometer Always Indicates High Or Low
- Remove speed sensor from transmission. Check that correct driven gear is installed for transmission, axle, and tire combination. If gear is incorrect, install correct gear. If gear is correct, go to next step.
- Check that correct drive gear is installed on transmission output shaft. If drive gear is correct, temporarily substitute known good EIC, then retest system. If drive gear is incorrect, install correct drive gear.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug connectors C1 and C2 at EIC. See Figure. Inspect Gray/Black wire between connector C1 terminal No. 12 and speed sensor for continuity and shorts to ground. Inspect Pink/Orange wire between connector C1 terminal No. 8 for continuity to ground. Repair as necessary. If wires are okay, go to next step.
- Unplug connector from vehicle speed sensor, located at left rear of transmission. Measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is 200-300 ohms, temporarily substitute known good EIC, then retest system. If resistance is not as specified, replace vehicle speed sensor.
