Pinpoint Test G - Temp Gauge Displays 2 Top & 2 Bottom Bars

  1. Unplug connector from temperature sender, located on right side of engine near No. 1 fuel injector. Turn ignition on. Wait until prove-out is completed. Temperature gauge should indicate cold; only bottom bar should appear. If temperature gauge does not indicate as specified, go to next step. If temperature gauge indicates as specified, replace temperature sender.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect wiring from temperature sender. Remove instrument cluster. Refer to, under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (EIC) . Measure resistance between connector C1 pin No. 4 (Red/White wire) and connector C1 pin No. 8 (Pink/Orange wire). See Figure.
  3. If resistance is greater than 15,000 ohms, temporarily substitute known good EIC, then retest system. If resistance is less than 15,000 ohms, repair short on Red/White wire to temperature sender.
