Pinpoint Test E - Cs Displayed, Gauge Blanks Out Fuel Tank Symbol, Lights 2 Top & 2 Bottom Bars Of Fuel Gauge

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (EIC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Measure resistance between EIC harness connector C1 pin No. 6 (Yellow/White wire) and connector C1 pin No. 8 (Pink/Orange wire) of wiring harness. See Figure. If resistance is greater than 14 ohms (normally 15-160 ohms), temporarily substitute known good EIC, then retest system. If resistance is not within specification, go to next step.
  3. Lower fuel tank to gain access to fuel tank sending unit. Unplug harness connector from fuel tank sending unit. Again measure resistance between instrument EIC harness connector pins specified in step 2). Resistance should be greater than 10,000 ohms. If resistance is as specified, replace fuel tank sending unit. If resistance is not as specified, repair short in fuel tank sending unit wiring.
