Pinpoint Test D - Co Displayed, Gauge Blanks Out Fuel Tank Symbol, Lights 2 Top & 2 Bottom Bars Of Fuel Gauge
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Lower fuel tank to gain access to fuel tank sending unit. Unplug connector from fuel tank sending unit. Connect jumper wire between Yellow/White and Pink/Orange wires of fuel tank sending unit harness connector. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Observe fuel gauge for several minutes. If CO does not appear, go to next step. If CO appears, go to step 3).
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between terminals of fuel tank sending unit (Yellow/White and Pink/Orange wires on mating connector). If resistance is less than 181 ohms (normally 15-160 ohms), go to next step. If resistance is not less than 181 ohms, replace fuel tank sending unit.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug connector C1 from EIC. See Figure. Connect jumper wire between Yellow/White and Pink/Orange wires of fuel tank sending unit harness connector. Measure resistance between C1 harness connector terminals No. 1 (Pink/Orange wire) and 6 (Yellow/White wire). If resistance is close to zero ohm, temporarily substitute known good EIC, then retest system. If resistance is not close to zero ohm, repair open Yellow/White or pink/Orange wire.
- Remove fuel pump/sender assembly. Measure resistance between sender terminals while moving float arm up and down. If resistance exceeds 181 ohms at any time, replace fuel tank sending unit. If resistance does not exceed 181 ohms, inspect terminals for poor connection. Repair as necessary.
