Rear Brake Caliper: Disassembly
- Remove caliper. See REAR BRAKE CALIPER & PADS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Open bleed screw and drain fluid out through brake hose fitting. Remove lower guide pin bushing and dust boots. See Fig 1 . Pry snap ring off dust boot and discard dust boot.
- Using Allen wrench, rotate piston counterclockwise and remove piston from adjuster spindle. Carefully remove piston seal. Remove snap ring. Remove stopper, adjusting spindle and connecting link. Remove and discard "O" ring from adjusting spindle.
- Remove parking brake return spring. Remove nut and lock washer. Match mark operating lever-to-shaft position. Remove operating lever from shaft. Remove seal and dust boot, shaft, and needle bearing from caliper.
NOTE:
If using manufacturer's caliper rebuild kit, 3 types of color-coded grease are supplied. Follow rebuild kit instructions for proper grease application.
