Self-Diagnostic Mode

NOTE: Enter self-diagnostic mode to determine if a problem exists in sending unit circuits or display.
  1. Turn ignition off. Simultaneously press and hold E/M and SELECT buttons on message center. While holding buttons, turn ignition on. Instrument cluster will display upper 2 and lower 2 bars in temperature gauge or fuel gauge if a problem exists in corresponding sending unit or circuitry. Temperature or fuel tank symbol will not appear if problem exists in corresponding sending unit or circuitry. See Fig 1 .
  2. CO (circuit open) or CS (circuit short) will be displayed if FUEL REMAINING or DISTANCE TO EMPTY is selected on message center and open or short exists in fuel tank sending unit circuitry.
  3. If any information in center display is flashing, instrument cluster is defective and should be replaced. If instrument cluster is replaced, verify symptoms no longer exist. If symptoms exist, perform function diagnostic mode again.
