Pinpoint Test Dc - Speed Indication Varies Erratically

  1. Remove speed sensor from transmission. Check that driven gear is in good condition, and driven gear retainer clip is installed. If components are defective, replace as necessary. If components are in good condition, go to next step.
  2. Unplug connector from vehicle speed sensor, located at left rear of transmission. Measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is 200 - 300 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace vehicle speed sensor.
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug connectors from EIC. Unplug connector from vehicle speed sensor, located at left rear of transmission. Inspect Gray/Black wire for continuity between vehicle speed sensor harness connector and pin No. 31 of EIC harness connector C255. See Figure . Inspect Pink/Orange wire for continuity between vehicle speed sensor harness connector and ground. If continuity exists, replace EIC. Repair appropriate wire if continuity does not exist.
